Hello, everyone, Happy Christmas! And welcome to our Surry Hills Village Christmas concert.
I hope you’re enjoying the great entertainment. I’d like firstly to acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora nation, the traditional custodians of this land.
Our City is home to people of 200 different nationalities and many different faiths, and the Christmas message of peace and goodwill is for us all.
This is the last in our Christmas concert series and I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as the other residents enjoyed their village concerts.
And tonight, you can meet Santa.
As well, you can also enjoy the sausage sizzle, gelato and coffee, and even make your own Christmas decoration.
You can also see the Live Green School Garden Project display, including the garden grown by Bourke Street Public School over the last six weeks, with the help of the City of Sydney. It helps educate children about sustainability and healthy eating.
Our official Christmas charity this year is DoggieRescue.com, which collects and re-houses abandoned or mistreated animals. DoggieRescure volunteers are here tonight and we hope you support them to carry on this important work.
Tonight we’re also celebrating the opening of the new adventure playground here at Ward Park. It’s naturally shaded by trees and it has been given a wider range of play equipment including the climbing net, swing and balancing structures, the custom play wall, a small bicycle track and nature play areas.
In response to community feedback, a flying fox, and a small skate area have been installed.
I’d like to thank our City Projects team for their work: Michael Woolley, Ian The, Lisa Dodd and Gynt Drinan, and our contracts JMD Design and Design Landscapes for creating this exciting new playground for the children of Surry Hills.
Thank you to our Sponsors, Energy Australia, and Lindt Chocolate.
Thank you to our great performers and our City staff who put so much effort into making this a memorable evening.
Happy Christmas everyone!
